Emerging Tech Session: A Sensitive (Data) Subject: Applying eDiscovery brainpower and tech to governance and compliance

Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Presented by: Matthew Geaghan, Nuix & Patricia Kelly, Director of Practice Support Services, Latham & Watkins
Location: Trianon Ballroom

You’re familiar with the challenges of eDiscovery document review – can you apply the same skills and methodologies to compliance and regulatory obligations such as data subject access requests (DSARs), government subpoenas and regulatory queries? While these increasingly common projects are typically smaller than a full-blown eDiscovery, they present many of the same challenges for law firms and in-house legal counsel: collecting, searching and analyzing large collections of data in a very tight timeframe – often by a geographically distributed team.

The Corporate Governance and Data Privacy & Security practices at Latham Watkins have been refining workflows for these requests for several years. They’ve hit upon a winning formula which reduces over-collection, empowers less technical users, ensures that the right data is shared (and not shared) and improves the speed and accuracy of their process.

This Emerging Technology panel session will discuss:

  1. The top three data request projects – similarities, differences and best practices
  2. How and when to include the general counsel and data privacy officer
  3. What to look for when starting, deploying and optimizing your own process.
